Nepal's Constituent Assembly session unlikely today as well

thecheers.org    2008-06-30 18:41:26

Kathmandu, June 30 : Chances of the parliamentary session of Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) remain slim on Monday.
Chances of the parliamentary session of Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) remain slim on Monday.

The CA sitting which has been repeatedly disrupted by the Madhesi lawmakers has been scheduled for 4pm today.

Although the major three parties had claimed to find an outlet after discussing with the Madhes-based parties prior to the CA session, attempts to arrive to an understanding on the demands forwarded by the Madhes-based parties have failed.

The leaders of the Madhes-based parties have not been invited for dialogue so far, Terai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) leader Hridayesh Tripathi informed.

According to Kantipur, Tripathi charged that the talks could not take place since the ruling parties are not serious towards the Madhesi issues.

Three major political parties are scheduled to meet the leaders of the Madhes-based parties to discuss the solutions to the Terai issues following internal consultations on Monday.

However, the Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninst (CPN-UML) has claimed that the talks could not take place since coordinator of the major Madhes-based party Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) Upendra Yadav is not present in Kathmandu.

Madhesi lawmakers have been disrupting the CA's house session demanding constitutional guarantee of the agreement signed between the government and United Democratic Madhesi Front--- the Madhesi alliance of MPRF, TMDP and Rajendra Mahato-led Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP-M) --- on February 28.

While the major three parties--- Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML--- have agreed to address the demands raised by the Madhes-based parties through political means and commitment, the Madhesi leaders have been maintaining their stance that there is not alternative to providing constitutional guarantee to the high-level understanding forged in the past.
