Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accused President Pervez Musharraf of 'blindly toeing US policies which have pushed the country into its worst crisis.'

Addressing supporters in Taxila on Friday, Sharif predicted that the Musharraf-backed PML-Quaid (PML-Q) would suffer a humiliating defeat in the February 18 elections.

"I had received three phone calls from the US president (Clinton), but ordered six atomic blasts in reply to five Indian nuclear tests. On the contrary, Musharraf gave up on receiving just one call from the US Secretary of State (Rice)," The Daily Times quoted Sharif, as saying.

Those ruling the country for the last eight years have even plunged it into crisis after crisis, the PML-N chief said.

"I hope that people of Rawalpindi will again show confidence in my party and reject the turncoats who secured vote in my name but later changed their loyalties," he said. (ANI)
