Shillong, May 13 : Home Minister Shivraj Patil inaugurated the new administrative block of the Assam Rifles here on Tuesday.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil inaugurated the new administrative block of the Assam Rifles here on Tuesday.

He later addressed Assam Rifles personnel, telling them that his ministry would ensure the welfare of the paramilitary forces, including redressing anomalies in pay parities between the defence and paramilitary units.

Patil said no one should get demotivated thinking that the Sixth Pay Commission has been of little benefit. In fact there were good points in the Pay Commission which would benefit the paramilitaries, he added.

For looking into the demands, he said that a committee is already set up to look into them.
Patil met Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy and other senior civilian and military officers.

Later, addressing the media, he said the issue of fencing on a short stretch has to be resolved through talks between India and Bangladesh.
He reiterated that the Central Government is providing all necessary help to the states to meet security challenges and would continue to so. (ANI)
