The Indian Government has clarified that the reports of meeting between its Vice President Hamid Ansari and the Dalai Lama were mere rumours, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has said.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said: "The Indian side has clarified to China on relevant rumour, saying there's no such plan."

Qin also said that India has assured that its position on the Tibet issue will remain unchanged.

"The Indian side also says that India's position on the Tibet issue is clear and consistent, and will not change in the future," the People's Daily quoted Qin, as saying.

Tibetan exiles across the globe are expressing their solidarity for Tibetans in China and are demanding that the Beijing Olympic games schedule to be held in August be stopped. They also called for the exiled Dalai Lama to be allowed to live in Tibet.

The Dalai Lama has been urging the Tibetans to resort to non-violent means and his middle-path is regarded as a 'pragmatic political approach' that meets with the demands of the Tibetans of gaining greater autonomy as well as respecting the territorial integrity of China. (ANI)
