The Pakistan People's Party (PPP), the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have finally come together, but the political messages coming out of each camp continue to be discordant.

While PML(N) chief Nawaz Sharif continues to insist on President Musharraf's resignation, Asif Ali Zardari has been quoted as saying that the new government would work towards changing the system and not seek personal revenge.

ANP President Asfandyar Wali was quoted as saying that compromise could be used to resolve issues, but "principles should not be sacrificed".

The gathering of 171 legislators of the three political parties under one roof has been described as historic.

"The message is that we will serve this nation and brave the challenges faced by the country together. This country came into existence as a result of the power of ballot and we will take it out of crises with the same power," the Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying.

"We are not prepared to wait even a single day" for the convening of the National Assembly after the announcement of the elections results, Sharif said. (ANI)
