Reiterating that Pakistan's strength lies in fast bowling, skipper Shoaib Malik today said that speedster Shoaib Akhtar would be the key player for the visiting team in the three-match Test series against India beginning tomorrow at the Ferozshah Kotla stadium here.

"Shoaib Akhtar and Danish Kaneria will play a vital role if we go on to win the match," Malik told a press conference on the eve of the match here after the Indian Oil Cup was unveiled at a small ceremony where Indian captain Anil Kumble was also present.

Malik dismissed the possibility that the host team might have an edge over Pakistan due to a superior spin attack, saying pacers, who have been their strength, always end up taking more wickets than spinners.

"No team has an edge. Both are equal. India has good spinners in Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik. But we also have a quality spinner in Kaneria. Moreover, fast bowling is our main strength, and if you check, you will find that our pacers always take more wickets even if the wicket is spinner-friendly," he said.

Responding to a query as to what sort of difference would be seen in the way he and his Indian counterpart Kumble lead their respective teams as there is a gap of 12 years in their age, he said that confidence matters more than age on the ground.

"Age doesn't matter on the ground if we are winning and performing well consistently," he said after taking few seconds to answer this question.

Malik hinted that wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal would play the match despite having a bad patch with the bat.

"We may opt for experience over youth," he said. (ANI)
