London, January 4 : The reunion tour of rock band 'The Police' was the biggest-selling concert tour in the US last year, according to figures released by music industry magazine Pollstar.
The reunion tour of rock band 'The Police' was the biggest-selling concert tour in the US last year, according to figures released by music industry magazine Pollstar.

The band beat Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion, and Bruce Springsteen to top the list of stars whose concerts generated huge business last year. Tickets to their gigs sold for 67.5 million pounds.

The Police, who reunited last year to tour for the first time in more than two decades, also sold the most tickets, 1.2 million, at an average price of 56.76 pounds.

According to dailysnack.co.uk, the magazine has also reported that ticket revenue earned by the music industry reached a record two-billion-pound mark on the back of successful concert tours last year, registering an eight per cent increase over 2006.

However, the combined ticket revenues from the top 20 tours in 2007 showed a 15 per cent decline as compared to the top 20 tours in 2006. There was also an 18 per cent decline in the total number of tickets sold for the top 20 tours combined.

But still, overall concert receipts last year were more than those of 2006.

Gary Bongiovanni, the Editor-in-chief of Pollstar, said that this rise occurred because smaller tours did better business last year. (ANI)
