Amy Winehouse and Kanye West led the way at yesterday’s (06.12.07) nominations for the 50th Grammy Awards.

The two stars – who have both battled personal problems recently – look set to dominate the prestigious music ceremony at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre on February 10 after Winehouse received six nods and West a massive eight.

West, whose mother Donda died in November, has been recognised in categories including Album of the Year and Rap Album for his third studio LP ‘Graduation’.

Winehouse - who recently cancelled all her performances for 2007 after struggling to cope without husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is on remand in London’s Pentonville jail for allegedly perverting the course of justice – is also in line for Album of the Year for ‘Back to Black’, while her hit ‘Rehab’ is up for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

The 24-year-old singer, who has a well documented problem with drugs and alcohol, has also been nominated in the Best New Artist section.

Just behind Winehouse with five nominations are the Foo Fighters, Ne-Yo, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and T-Pain, while artists including Rihanna, Akon and Bruce Springsteen will each battle in four categories.

Foo Fighters’ lead singer Dave Grohl revealed he is a big fan of Amy Winehouse, saying: “I think Amy’s amazing. I love her records so much.

"I hope she shows up at the ceremony, I hope she plays, and I hope she does what she does best."

The awards will be broadcast live on US TV channel CBS.
