Four arrested with arms in their possession in Karbala

Karbala, Mar 24, (VOI) – Security forces arrested four wanted persons with arms and ammunition in their possession in two different places in the holy Shiite city of Karbala, a senior security official said on Monday.

"Our security forces captured four wanted people and discovered an amount of arms and explosives during search raids to track down outlaws in western Karbala," Maj. General Raed Shakir Jawdat, the Karbala operations and police chief, told Aswat al-Iraq –Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Fifteen Kalashnikov assault rifles, three Simonov rifles, ammunition, five home-made explosive charges and five anti-armor rockets were seized in the operation conducted thanks to intelligence tips on the presence of armed groups in the area of al-Maslilia, (4 km) west of Karbala," Jawdat explained.

The holy Shiite city of Karbala, said to house the tombs of Imams al-Hussein and his brother al-Abbas, lies 130 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
