"Fifteen Kalashnikov assault rifles, three Simonov rifles, ammunition, five home-made explosive charges and five anti-armor rockets were seized in the operation conducted thanks to intelligence tips on the presence of armed groups in the area of al-Maslilia, (4 km) west of Karbala," Jawdat explained.
The holy Shiite city of Karbala, said to house the tombs of Imams al-Hussein and his brother al-Abbas, lies 130 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
