Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has asked opera singer Katherine Jenkins to help her learn the words of the Welsh national anthem.

The duchess - who is married to Britain's Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales - is so impressed with her husband's ability to speak Welsh that she is determined to have some lessons herself and has requested the help of the opera diva.

Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine revealed to Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper: "I met the Duchess of Cornwall at the 2007 Classical Brit Awards. She was absolutely delightful and asked me if I spoke Welsh, which I do.

"She told me, 'My husband speaks a little Welsh and I'm always very impressed when he sings the Welsh national anthem in Welsh. I'd love to learn the words of that.'

"She is obviously very proud of Charles.

'I said to her, 'If you ever need some lessons, I'll gladly teach you!' To which she replied, laughing, 'I might need some singing lessons before that.' "

Katherine has also met Britain's Queen Elizabeth, and revealed the monarch has an unusual name for her pet dogs.

She added: "I asked the queen if her corgis were pure bred, but she replied, 'Actually, no. They're a cross between a corgi and a daschund. I call them the Dawgis!' "
