Britain's Princes William and Harry have pledged their support to a special fundraising event for injured members of the British Armed Forces.

The royal brothers are patrons of the City Salute Appeal, launched yesterday (27.03.08), which aims to raise funds for a sports complex for wounded servicemen and women with a sunset pageant outside London's St Paul's Cathedral on May 7.

The procession of fly-pasts, navy bands and ceremonial troops will be a "celebration of the qualities of our Servicemen and Women: their courage, modesty, toughness, and humour".

William, who is currently training with the Royal Air Force, said: "As brothers, we are delighted to be supporting the City of London in saluting all those who serve their country

"As well as raising money for vital rehabilitation facilities, City Salute is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the fantastic contribution made by our servicemen and women and their families.

"It is also a chance to pay tribute to the casualty evacuation and medical staff of all three services (British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy) who protect and care for the wounded so brilliantly and with such tireless dedication."

Money raised donated by spectators will benefit Headley Court, a Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Help for Heroes and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

William's brother Harry, 23, is a second lieutenant in the Blue and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry in the British Army.
