Prince William secured a ticket to the Carling Cup Final for his injured Army friend

A source close to the prince said: “Prince William was very upset when he learned of Martyn's injuries and knows he is a massive Spurs fan so he made some enquiries with the club and managed to get a couple of tickets.”
Britain’s Prince William showed his generous side yesterday (24.02.08) when he secured ticket to the Carling Cup Final for his injured Army friend.

The 25-year-old was so determined to cheer up Lance Cpl Martyn Compton - who suffered 70 per cent burns when a bomb blew up his armoured vehicle in Afghanistan last year - he pulled some strings to get him and his fiancée Michelle Clifford tickets to the football game between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at London’s Wembley Stadium.

A source close to the prince said: “Prince William was very upset when he learned of Martyn's injuries and knows he is a massive Spurs fan so he made some enquiries with the club and managed to get a couple of tickets.” Lance Cpl Compton served in D Squadron of the Household Cavalry at Windsor with Princes William and Harry when they were all based at Windsor.

When the explosion occurred in August last year, Compton lost his ears and nose, and nearly died after his heart stopped three times. His comrades and army pals were stunned when he was only awarded £100,000 compensation.

Anyone wishing to donate money to the fund for injured soldiers should make a cheque payable to Household Cavalry Central Charitable Fund and send it to D Squadron Leader, Household Cavalry Regiment, Combermere Barracks, Windsor, SL4 3DN.
