Hollywood star Tom Hanks had a brush with death when he picked up a staph infection in Fiji.
The Oscar winning star failed to treat the wound on his leg, received while making 'Castaway' , and it ended up becoming infected.
When, two weeks later, the swelling refused to go down Hanks went to see a doctor who told him that he was close to death.
"He said, 'I have to put you in the hospital as soon as possible... because you're about an hour away from having blood poisoning that will kill you." Contactmusic quoted the actor, as saying.
The actor went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for the movie, which hit theatres in 2001.
He was scheduled to start work on the movie adaptation of Dan Brown's novel 'Angels and Demons', to be directed by Ron Howard, but the movie has now been halted due to the writer's strike in Hollywood. (ANI)
