Duran Duran guitarist John Taylor was "embarrassed" when he discovered Britain's Princess Diana was a fan of the band.
The musician joked he was left red-faced when the princess publicly declared the 80s group her "favourite band" because he "clearly used more hairspray" than her.
He said: "I think I was just really embarrassed because I clearly used more hairspray and had bigger shoulder pads than her."
Frontman Simon Le Bon also complained the princess' declaration made Duran Duran "uncool" because she stood for the establishment.
He added to Q magazine: "I was nonplussed when I found out Princess Diana was a fan. There have been times when I thought, 'great', and there are times when it's been the last thing we needed.
"She stood for the establishment. It was very uncool."
Duran Duran put their mixed feelings about being associated with the princess behind them, when they joined a host of acts to perform at last July's special memorial show, the Concert for Diana.
The group were personally asked by Diana's sons Princes William and Harry to take part in the concert at London's Wembley Stadium.
Simon said: "We did the tribute concert because it made sense. I mean, those boys lost their mother."
