Desmond Tutu supports Wallace and Gromit's Wrong Trousers Day

London, June 16 : Famous cartoon characters Wallace and Gromit posed with Nobel Peace Prize-winning Archbishop Desmond Tutu recently to promote a fund-raising even in aid of their children's foundation.
Famous cartoon characters Wallace and Gromit posed with Nobel Peace Prize-winning Archbishop Desmond Tutu recently to promote a fund-raising even in aid of their children's foundation.

A life-sized character from the Oscar-winning animated films appeared clad in a pink tutu that he was wearing over his more familiar attire of brown trousers, white shirt, red tie, and green tank top.

The organisers of the event hope that about one million pounds will be raised on the first music-themed 'Wrong Trousers Day, Wrong Trousers Rocks' on June 27.

They have revealed that their plan is to have one million people pay one pound each for the right to wear "rocking wrong trousers" to school or work.

According to them, the money thus raised would go to sick and terminally ill children in hospitals and hospices across the UK.

Archbishop Tutu's backing to the campaign comes after the last month's national trouser tour, which helped Wallace and Gromit raise and hand over 100,000 pounds to 11 children's hospitals and hospices.

The tour was organised by Wallace and Gromit's Children's Foundation.

"Archbishop Tutu really rocks - the more of us who follow his example and support Wrong Trousers Day, the more money will be raised for sick children in the UK," the Daily Star quoted Nicola Masters, director of the foundation, as saying.

The money raised through Wrong Trousers Day would be used for a number of initiatives-such as art, music and play therapy, family accommodation, sensory facilities, and equipment and respite care for children with life-limiting illnesses.

Tony Blair, Baddiel and Skinner and Sophie Anderton were among the 400,000 people who participated in the event last year. (ANI)
