- If you care enough to give the world water, buy Singapore's products
The message is: help the world to quench thirst by buying Singapore's products.
Contrary to popular opinion, Singaporeans are not materialistic. We work hard and we give a lot of our money to charity. It is not just to our poorest Singaporeans, but other countries as well.
In 2001, Hyflux, a water company, was established. It can be fairly safe that these water technologies were established due to Singapore's acute vulnerability to its almost zilch water resources. In a nutshell, these technologies simply clean dirty water and redistribute water so the water surfaces to the ground. It has won a multitude of awards worldwide and is widely acclaimed.
The crunch: You need water to build these technologies, you know. And some countries can't afford them, and what do you want Singapore to do; watch them die of thirst when you have the power to change that?
How about buying a few local brands which have international chains? You can try Charles and Keith and Peddler's Works. You can buy a pair of shoes or a bag for about S$19.90. Peddler's Works are pricer but they last longer and have up to size 13. Or how about dining at Crystal Jade or Sakae Sushi? The former is a modest chain of Chinese food while the latter offers Japanese food at great value. Or if you are on a tight budget, you can just buy something at Mr Bean, a chain offering soya milk. If your kids are always bugging you for ice-cream, Mr Bean has a soya bean ice-cream which is cheap yet delicious.
I am no political expert, but given the nature of Singaporeans, I am placing my bet that our local companies and Singapore government will not watch the world die of thirst. To read up more on Hyflux at Wikipedia, the link is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyflux.
Help to quench the world of thirst! Support Singapore's products!
