It all started with the brand name MOCCA, local television station MediaCorp’s “search, buy, sell and connect” website. An advertisement saw three slender and attractive girls with placards in place of the position of their boobs, with pure flesh peeking out at the top and bottom of their figures. A muscular man was also featured on national television wearing only his undies.
Under regulations on local advertisements, there cannot be any private parts publicly exhibited. Even under the norms in Singapore, sexual content is a no-no. However, among Singapore’s conservative older generation, there was surprisingly no protest, while the advertisers behind MOCCA lauded success of the series of advertisements for capturing viewers’ attention.
Now, VAIO is headed in the exact same direction, As at press time, one can see pictures of VAIO laptops in place of where the models’ boobs are, showing just the top and bottom of their figures at Suntec City’s Sony Bravia window display.
So far, the advertisements do grab attention. However, will sex sell in Singapore? Only time will tell. Crystal Tein, The Cheers News
