Buddhism, Christianity and Catholicism are increasingly blended in Singapore nuclear families.
Step into any Singapore household nowadays, and you can see pictures of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary alongside the altar of Buddha or Guan Yin. Singapore parents are increasingly more liberal in allowing their children to choose their own religion. The change appears to have started a decade ago, while becoming more apparent in recent years.
Even Muslim parents are taking to this trend. Although a vast majority still insists on Islam as the religion of choice for their children, a few have become more open-minded and allow their children the freedom of choosing a religion.
The five main religions in Singapore are Buddhism, Christianity, Catholicism, Islam and Hinduism.
