Washington (dpa) - At least 25 Cubans were presumed drowned off their country's coast after the boat on which they were travelling to the United States hit a reef, El Nuevo Herald daily said Thursday.

The boat had been followed by the Cuban coast guard when the accident happened, the paper said.

According to the paper, which was referring to victims' relatives, the accident happened last weekend. But the Cuban authorities had so far kept quiet over the accident, the paper said in its online edition.

Some 28 people had been travelling on the boat, the paper said. However, so far not all bodies had been recovered.
